What can I do to get rid of mucus and congestion in the head, especially when I'm detoxing?

I provide free self-massage flashcards on my website to teach how to do lymphatic drainage and flush out excess mucus with Melting Touch Method©.  - see my eBook for a deeper understanding of detox - Feel Like Yourself Again

First, you need to understand that the Direction of Flow for fluid & debris circulation in the tissue and lymph nodes travels from the midline of skull, towards the ears, and ultimately flows down the sides of the neck into the subclavian at the collarbone. So, being sure that the EARS, the main exits, are massaged a lot will help everything!

Transportation of mucus & excess fluid can be accelerated by massaging your skin with the same rhythm that the body uses = WALTZ, like an ocean wave, rippling, repetitive, slow, and VERY gentle. Be sure NOT to press too hard, or you will collapse tiny waterways that are trying to flush out wastes.

Your body's thousands of teeny lymphatic capillaries have "internal pumps" that make a slow steady undulation to pass molecules along a one-way path, and so you cannot make fluid "go backwards". But, if you are wearing something tight, or have a scar, it can slow down or even stop fluid like a tourniquette, and create pooling, or backup (too tight headband, extensions, hat, wart removal, surgery incision).

Gentle ear tugging creates the taffy-like effect of thixotropy, which is how your tissue elongates (myofascial release). Once the skin layers begin to elongate and separate, fluid movement occurs more readily. Pulsing, feathering, slow stationery skin-stretchy circles, and vibration all mobilize congestion by enhancing the body's own natural rhythm of fluid & semi-fluid (mucus) circulation.
